Board of Trustees Re-elected for St. Barnabas Communities

Gibsonia, Pa. - Feb. 1, 2007 - The board of trustees was recently re-elected for the St. Barnabas Communities Inc., a subsidiary of St. Barnabas Health System, which operates three independent living communities. The St. Barnabas Communities, which include The Village at St. Barnabas, The Washington Place at St. Barnabas and The Woodlands at St. Barnabas, are home to nearly 500 retirees.

Trustees for St. Barnabas Communities Inc. for 2007 will be:

  • Joseph C. Scaletta of Pine Township, Chairman. Scaletta is chairman of C.U.E., Inc., a cast urethane manufacturing company in Cranberry Township. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Scaletta founded C.U.E. in 1989, following 18 years' experience in the polyurethane business. A manufacturer dedicated to community service, Scaletta has served as a trustee of St. Barnabas Health System for seven years. He has been instrumental in the fund-raising success of the St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Tournament and is also a member of the St. Barnabas Charities' Community Advisory Committee.
  • Douglas W. Day of Richland Township, President/Secretary. Employed by St. Barnabas since 1982, Day has worked his way through the ranks and also serves as Senior Vice President of St. Barnabas Health System. In that capacity, he oversees the operations, administrative and personnel decisions of the St. Barnabas Communities. He is particularly involved with the St. Barnabas Communities' growth and construction, focusing on The Woodlands at St. Barnabas, which is a growing community of carriage homes in Valencia borough, Butler County. Day holds a bachelor of arts degree from Westminster College and is actively involved in several professional and civic organizations.
  • Jane Clare Orie of McCandless, Treasurer. Orie has served as state senator for the 40th Legislative District of Pennsylvania since 2001 and was named Republican whip - the third highest-ranking post in the state senate - in 2006. She previously served 4½ years in the state House of Representatives. She represents portions of northern Allegheny County, and southern and central Butler County. Focusing on the needs of her constituents, Orie has led the fight for improvements in health care, prescription drug coverage, tax reform, safety in schools, crime victims' rights, economic development and infrastructure enhancement on the state and local levels. Dedicated to seniors' issues, she has been a member of St. Barnabas Charities' Community Advisory Committee for many years. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Franklin & Marshall College and a law degree from Duquesne University.

    The Village at St. Barnabas in Richland Township is a community of 252 one- and two-bedroom apartments anchored by an indoor mall filled with a restaurant, pub, country store, bank, travel agency, hair salon, library, chapel, post office, auditorium and more. The Washington Place at St. Barnabas in Richland Township is a community of 23 cozy one- and two-bedroom apartments in which hospitality hostesses check on residents daily. The Woodlands at St. Barnabas in Valencia borough, Butler County, is a growing community of nearly 100 one-level carriage homes designed for younger retirees who desire a spacious setting and maintenance-free lifestyle.

    About St. Barnabas, St. Barnabas Health System is the largest health care concern of its kind in Pennsylvania and offers service apart from the ordinary in a faith-based, non-denominational setting. Tracing its heritage back to 1900, the system serves approximately 900 inpatients and residents, plus 35,000 outpatients and home care clients.
