Mission Ministry Team of Pittsburgh Presbytery Validates PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS®
Gibsonia, Pa. - Oct. 12, 2006 - The Mission Ministry Team of Pittsburgh Presbytery has validated PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® as a recognized outreach program. With this validation, PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® will be listed in the presbytery's Mission Directory, providing Presbyterians in Allegheny County with information about how to get involved with the program either by adopting patients or donating funds. PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® will also be linked to the Presbytery Web site, www.pghpresbytery.org.
PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® is operated by St. Barnabas Charities as a community outreach program. The program matches long-term care residents with a visitor who personally delivers a gift at Christmas time. PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® operates at more than 250 long-term care facilities throughout five states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia and Tennessee. In 2005 alone, the campaign created smiles for 22,348 residents at 266 long-term care facilities.
"We're honored that the Presbytery chose to validate PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® after its review process," said Herb Dankmyer, Community Organizations Manager for St. Barnabas Charities. "The validation is a testament to PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS®' mission of helping patients as well as its credibility as a charitable organization."
PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® was founded in 1984 by St. Barnabas Health System president William V. Day, who realized the Christmas season could be a lonely time for long-term care residents. Additionally, Day wanted to encourage community members to visit their local long-term care facilities to witness the acts of goodwill and compassion that occur every day. Since its inception, PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® has provided gifts to 287,814 patients.
Goals for the 2006 PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® campaign will be announced during kickoff festivities on Friday, Nov. 10. PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® is co-sponsored by St. Barnabas Charities and WPXI-TV.
