Disaster Planning Topic of Next Health Executive Institute Seminar

Gibsonia, Pa. - March 21, 2006 - "Disaster Planning" will be the topic of the next Health Executive Institute seminar offered by St. Barnabas Health System. The free seminar, sponsored by Cura Hospitality, will be Friday, April 7 at The Village at St. Barnabas, 5850 Meridian Road. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the seminar scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. An optional lunch for $8 will follow the seminar.

Topics and speakers at the "Disaster Planning" seminar will include:

  • "An Overview of Allegheny County Emergency Management Services and Functions" by Robert Full. Full is the Allegheny County fire marshal and the chief of Allegheny County Department of Emergency Services. His public safety background, both in career and volunteer services, spans 30 years.
  • "Public Health Emergencies: Plans and Laws" by Hugh Teitelbaum, Vice President and General Counsel for St. Barnabas Health System. In addition to a career in health care law, Teitelbaum serves as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He is also Emergency Management Coordinator for Oakmont Borough, a board member of Richland Emergency Management Services, an emergency response planner for Allegheny County Sheriff's Reserves and legal counsel and Director of Research for Air Search and Rescue.
  • "Emergency Planning Workshop" by Sandra Wraith, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross. Wraith oversees the chapter's Community Disaster Education program and leads the Emergency Planning and Preparedness project, which trains administrators and staffs of facilities serving vulnerable populations how to develop and implement an emergency operations plan.


  • "Disaster Planning" is open to nursing home administrators and executive directors, personal care home administrators and their staffs, and directors of nursing and nursing personnel. The seminar has been approved for four Pennsylvania Nursing Home Administrator credits and has been accepted by the Department of Public Welfare for Personal Care Home administrative credits.
