St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open Nets Record $92,109

Gibsonia, Pa. - June 8, 2005 - Despite two delays due to inclement weather, the 18th annual St. Barnabas Charities Golf Open was a resounding success, netting a record-setting $92,109. The funds will benefit the poor and low-income residents of St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas who rely upon the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund to cover the cost of their care.

The golf open was held Monday, June 6 at the Butler Country Club and drew 44½ foursomes for morning and afternoon rounds of golf. Golfers generously participated in drawings, a silent auction and a live auction. Title sponsors Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and C.U.E. Inc. as well as 17 hospitality sponsors and 41 tee and green sign sponsors also contributed to the success of the event. During its 18-year history, the golf tournament has raised $878,000.

Golfers had an opportunity to meet the tournament's celebrity golfer, Louis Lipps, the former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver. The day was capped off by an awards dinner emceed by Bob Bruce of WPXI-TV, who served as auctioneer for a live auction of sports memorabilia and other prizes. The winning foursome from the event will have their names engraved on the tournament's traditional Bell Trophy, which was donated in memory of the late Donald Bell, a trustee of St. Barnabas and a former tournament chairman. The winning foursome included Bob Crnjarich, Rich Crnjarich, Jeff Kreutzer and Floyd Oliver. Golf committee chairman Rich Andrus presented the check for the day's fund-raising efforts to William V. Day, St. Barnabas president and CEO.

The 19th annual St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open will be held June 5, 2006 at Butler Country Club. For information, contact Debbie Panei, Assistant Director of Development at 724-444-5521.
