Flu Shot Clinic to be Held at Pittsburgh International Airport
Gibsonia, Pa. - Jan. 9, 2006 - Travelers to the Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday, Jan. 13 can get a flu vaccination at a clinic offered by St. Barnabas Medical Center.
St. Barnabas Medical Center nurses and medical assistants will be available to administer influenza vaccinations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a clinic located in the transit area. Because influenza is an extremely contagious virus, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that people get vaccinated each year. Vaccinations are effective for three to six months. Because influenza can pose serious health threats and further complications, the CDC strongly advises certain populations to get vaccinated: those age 65 or older, people with a weakened immune system, heart disease, diabetes, asthma or other serious disease, people working in a medical facility, and nursing home residents and employees. Individuals with an allergy to eggs or egg products should not get the vaccination.
