St. Barnabas' Founder's Day Grosses Record $95,300
Fund-raising event featured Michael Reagan
Gibsonia, Pa. - May 11, 2005 - St. Barnabas Charities' Founder's Day 2005 Celebration
featuring Michael Reagan grossed a record-setting $95,300.
The day-long celebration was held Thursday, May 5 and included a visit by Reagan to St. Barnabas
Nursing Home, an exclusive fund-raising luncheon at The Washington Place, and a fund-raising
dinner and silent auction at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. The dinner
was attended by 380 guests, who donated $15,300 on dozens of silent auction packages. The
luncheon contributed $2,025 to the gross total.
As part of the evening's festivities, Reagan, the eldest son of the late President Ronald Reagan,
and host of the nationally syndicated "The Very Independent Ronald Reagan Show," received the St.
Barnabas Hance Award from St. Barnabas Health System president and CEO William V. Day. The award
is presented annually to a person of national renown who has made a significant impact upon the
lives of Americans. David Johnson and Peggy Finnegan, co-anchors on WPXI-TV, served as the
program's master and mistress of ceremonies. The invocation was delivered by the Rev. Dr. Kevin
Gourley, associate pastor of Memorial Park Presbyterian Church in the North Hills. Joseph Barron
of Richland Township, a student at Oberlin Conservatory and the judges choice winner of the 2005
St. Barnabas Kean Idol contest, performed the National Anthem.
In his acceptance speech, Reagan entertained guests with stories of his father and emphasized
the need to support charitable organizations such as St. Barnabas. During its 105-year-old
history, St. Barnabas has maintained a mission of providing care to those in need regardless of
their ability to pay. During 2004 alone, the cost of that care exceeded $5.76 million for patients
at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas, and The Arbors at St. Barnabas.
