Curtisville Primary Center Students to Visit St. Barnabas Nursing Home

Gibsonia, Pa. - Dec. 16, 2005 - Nearly 30 second-graders from Curtisville Primary Center will visit with and deliver presents to residents of St. Barnabas Nursing Home, 5827 Meridian Road, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. The visit is part of the annual PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® program, which matches long-term care residents with members of the community who personally deliver gifts.

Under the leadership of teacher Anna Marie Catanese, Curtisville Primary Center is an active supporter of St. Barnabas. Each year, the students contribute hundreds of thousands of pennies to St. Barnabas' Pennies for Patients campaign. Visiting residents at Christmas time is an additional way the school supports St. Barnabas.

Now in its 22nd season, the goal of PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® is to match 22,275 residents in nursing homes, personal care homes and assisted living facilities with a member of the community who personally delivers a gift. The residents are in 260 facilities throughout five states - Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia and Tennessee. PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® was founded in 1984 by St. Barnabas Health System president William V. Day, who realized the Christmas season could be a lonely time for long-term care residents. Additionally, Day wanted to encourage community members to visit their local long-term care facilities to witness the acts of goodwill and compassion that occur every day. Since its inception, PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® has provided gifts to nearly 280,000 patients.

PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® is operated as a community outreach program by St. Barnabas Charities. Individuals, families, civic groups and businesses are still needed to participate in this year's campaign.
