St. Barnabas/Valencia Woods Auxiliary Installs Officers, Recognizes Volunteers
Volunteer group raised record-setting $185,660 during 2006

Gibsonia, Pa. - Jan. 31, 2007 - The 2007 officers for the St. Barnabas/Valencia Woods Auxiliary were installed during an Appreciation Tea on Jan. 26 at The Village at St. Barnabas. Elected for a two-year term were Lynne Rieser of Avalon as second vice president; Marti Taylor of Richland Township as recording secretary; and Renee Ruk of Mars as treasurer. The new officers join the officers entering the second year of their term. They are: Dianne Whetsell of Coraopolis, president; Ramona Henderson of Moon Township, first vice president; and Elaine Shaffer of Tarentum, corresponding secretary.

The auxiliary is a group of 150 volunteers dedicated to working at charitable events and raising funds for the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. In 2006, the auxiliary raised a record-setting $185,660 for the Free Care Fund, which supports poor and low-income patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas. Among the fund-raising events were two golf tournaments, the Kean Idol talent competition, a fashion gala, bake sales, a treasure sale, 50/50 raffles and flower sales.

Also during the tea, the top 11 volunteers were honored for contributing the most hours of service during 2006. They were:

  • Ann Farrell of Richland Township, 128 hours
  • Lucille Marsico of Valencia, 102 hours
  • Teddy Esler of Valencia, 101 hours
  • Barbara Keane of Valencia, 88 hours
  • Judy Moore of Gibsonia, 85 hours
  • Madge Clayton of Valencia, 79 hours
  • Loraine C. Day of Richland Township, 70 hours
  • Rita Gurtner of Richland Township, 65 hours
  • Fran Sheffler of Moon Township, 61 hours
  • Rita Foster of Richland Township, 56 hours
  • Alice Weston of Richland Township, 56 hours
