St. Barnabas to Celebrate Assisted Living Week
Gibsonia, Pa. (Richland Township), Sept. 8, 2005 - St. Barnabas Health System will celebrate Assisted Living Week, Sept. 11-17,
with a series of events at The Arbors at St. Barnabas, a 96-bed assisted living facility in Valencia
borough, Butler County. "Assisted living has changed over the years and now it is the norm to provide
a high level of care to residents who are in that gap between being able to live independently and
requiring specialized, skilled nursing care. Our Assisted Living Week will celebrate the evolution in
assisted living as an industry and give the residents an opportunity to enjoy some special programs,"
states Linda Leggens, Social Affairs Coordinator at The Arbors."
An annual event, Assisted Living Week will follow the theme "A Fair to Remember," providing
residents with a Fair atmosphere where time stands still and the only goal is to celebrate and share
the fun with friends and family. Activities at The Arbors will include:
- Sunday, Sept. 11 - At 2 p.m., The Arbors will be transformed into a Country Fair with entertainment provided by country singer Bill Campbell and Speckles the Clown. There will be a "Best Pie" contest and residents and their families will enjoy corn dogs and french fries.
- Tuesday, Sept. 13 - Luncheon and theatre. Residents will enjoy a luncheon followed by a movie at the Kean Theatre in The Washington Place to watch "Mother-In-Law," the comedy starring Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez.
- Wednesday, Sept. 14 - Residents will enjoy an old-fashioned harmonica concert by Barry Spithler followed by an ice-cream social.
- Friday, Sept. 16 - Nearly three dozen employee volunteers from Medrad will spend a "Day of Caring" visiting with residents and assisting in the annual bowling tournament featuring residents of The Arbors versus residents of Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas.
- Saturday, Sept. 17- A piano concert at 2 p.m. with Jeff Grunden tickling the keys followed by a cake and punch party.
National Assisted Living WeekŪ, established in 1995 by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL),
provides a unique opportunity to bring together residents, families, staff, volunteers, and the community to
celebrate elders and the services provided within assisted living and residential care communities.
