JED CHRISTIANSEN WINS ST. BARNABAS MEDICAL CENTER 5K
Race sets record with 920 participants
Gibsonia, Pa. - Aug. 7, 2010 - Jed Christiansen, 23, of Greenville won the 19th annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk, Aug. 7, 2010, setting a course record with a time of 14:51. Capturing first place in the women's division was Kristen Leslie, 23, of Pittsburgh with a time of 18:23.
TRACO was signature sponsor and UPMC Health Plan was the course sponsor of the event held along Meridian Road. Proceeds from the 5K benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which assists patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas who otherwise would not be able to afford their care. Activities at the race included a performance by the band John McDonald and the Mango Men. Jordan Rose Luntz, a 2009 Kean Idol winner, sang the National Anthem. An awards ceremony emceed by Trisha Pittman of WPXI-TV and Larry Richert of KDKA Radio featured food, beverages and prize giveaways.
Both overall winners were presented with etched glass trophies. Christiansen and Leslie led a record-setting 980 runners and walkers who participated in the event.
The second place overall male finisher was Steve Kirkland, 22, of Pittsburgh. His time was 16:01. Third place was Eric Balaban, 19, of Wexford with a time of 16:02. The second place overall female finisher was Leslie Kramer, 33, of Slippery Rock with a time of 19:02. The third place overall female finisher was Hillary Boxheimer, 16, of Pittsburgh with a time of 19:31. All received trophies for their accomplishments.
For the first time, the event included Master (ages 40-49) and Grand Master (ages 50 and over) divisions that were determined by an age-grading formula. Being honored in those divisions were:
