John Balouris Wins St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K

Gibsonia, Pa. - Aug. 5, 2006 - John Balouris, 20 of Allison Park won the 15th annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk today, Aug. 5, 2006, with a time of 15:46. Capturing first place in the women's division was Kristie Domis, 15 of Pittsburgh with a time of 19:21.

The event, held along Meridian Road, was sponsored by TRACO. UPMC Health Plan was the course sponsor. Proceeds from the 5K benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which assists patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas who otherwise would not be able to afford their care. Activities at the race included a performance by country and rock band The Shelly Duff band, an awards ceremony hosted by Scott Harbaugh of WPXI-TV, food and beverages, and prize giveaways.

Both overall winners were crowned with Olympic-tradition laurel wreaths and presented with etched glass trophies. Balouris and Domis joined a record-setting 728 runners and walkers who participated in the event.

The second place overall male finisher was Lucas Zarzecny, 17 of Pittsburgh. His time was 15:49. Third place was Lawrence Quinn, 24 of Boalsburg with a time of 15:53. The second place overall female finisher was Katherine Reinhart, 17 of Gibsonia with a time of 19:54. The third place overall female finisher was Heidi Manfred, 25 of Altoona with a time of 20:00. All received trophies for their accomplishments.

Eighty-two more trophies were given to the top three winners in the 14 age categories in the men's and women's divisions. The winners for each category are:

For the third year, the St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk had a corporate division. Corporate teams were composed of five members with the top three runners' totals going toward the team total. Winning team trophies for the top three teams were:
