Registration Begins for St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk
Gibsonia, Pa. - May 22, 2008 - Runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes are sought for the 17th annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk. The race, known as one of the best in the Pittsburgh for its huge post-race party, will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 from St. Barnabas Medical Center, 5830 Meridian Road. Proceeds benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which in 2007 alone provided more than $5.6 million to poor and low-income patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas. Last year's 5K attracted 840 participants - a new record. The signature sponsor of the St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk is TRACO; the course sponsor is UPMC Health Plan.
The St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K follows an out-and-back course along the flat and rolling terrain of Meridian Road. Runners are timed using a ChampionChip device provided by The Runner's High Timing Services and the course is certified by USA Track and Field. Trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three males and females in 14 age categories. Corporate teams of up to five runners are encouraged to participate and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
