Corporate Running Teams Invited to 15th Annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk
Gibsonia, Pa. - June 26, 2006 - For the third year, the popular St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk will have a category for corporate race teams. The race will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at the St. Barnabas Medical Center grounds, 5830 Meridian Road. TRACO is the event sponsor and UPMC Health Plan is the course sponsor.
Any team or business can create a team. Teams can be as large as five people and must include at least one female among the five members. The top three participants' times will be used to calculate the team score. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
There is no fee for registering as a team. However, the team participants' entries and individual payments must be submitted together by July 28. Entries are $14 per person. For an application, call (724) 444-5512 or email St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk .
Entries for individuals are also available online at www.stbarnabas5k.com. Entries received after July 28 for individuals are $18. Participants registering by July 28 are guaranteed a race T-shirt and goody bag.
The St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk presents a morning of fun for the whole family and attracts nearly 700 runners, walkers and wheelchair participants each year. Proceeds benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which supports patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas who otherwise would not be able to afford their care. In 2005 alone, the Free Care Fund provided more than $6.29 million to patients.
The race is a 3.1-mile out-and-back course along flat and rolling terrain. Certified by USA Track and Field, the racers use a ChampionChip timing device provided by The Runner's High Timing Services. Trophies will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as in 14 age categories. During the race and at the post-race party the band, In the Saddle, will provide entertainment. Free food and beverages will be available at the post-race party, and participants will be eligible for drawings of prize giveaways. Celebrity emcees for the 5K are Scott Harbaugh of WPXI-TV and Shelley Duffy of KDKA radio.
