Charitable Golf Open
On Monday, June 2, 2008, 184 golfers participated in the annual St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open
at the Butler Country Club. The charitable event netted $107,079, the highest in the tournament's 21 years.
Proceeds from the St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. The fund supports
the poor and low-income patients of St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at
St. Barnabas. Since its founding in 1900, it has been St. Barnabas' mission to never turn a patient away because
of their inability to pay. In 2007, St. Barnabas provided more than $5.6 million in free care.
Golfers had the opportunity to meet the tournament's celebrity golfer, Kent Tekulve, pitcher in
the Pittsburgh Pirates' 1979 World Series win. The day was capped
off with an awards dinner emceed by Bob Bruce of WPXI-TV, who served as auctioneer for a live
auction of sports memorabilia and other prizes.
St. Barnabas Charities will host its 22nd annual golf tournament Monday, June 1, 2009 at
