Kay's wish will come true in 2008 when St. Barnabas Communities opens its exciting new Crystal Conservatories - two beautiful adjoining glass buildings that will house an indoor pool and bathhouse as well as an elegant space for social and wellness activities. The facilities, which will be open to all residents of the St. Barnabas Communities, will offer year-round swimming, water therapy and aqua aerobics in the lush natural surroundings of St. Barnabas' Valencia campus.
This is welcome news to avid swimmers like Kay and her friends who have spent their winters traveling to and from an indoor facility in Wexford to enjoy water aerobics. These same women participated in water aerobics at the St. Barnabas outdoor pool last summer before construction began on the glass tower that will enclose the 36- x 69-foot heated swimming pool. Now they are eagerly awaiting the opening of the new facility so they can enjoy swimming anytime they wish.
For Kay, the addition will allow her to continue her lifelong love of the water. Before moving to the St. Barnabas Communities four years ago, she lived closed to the waves at Myrtle Beach for 20 years and swam regularly. When she moved up north, she was happy to continue her swimming routine, but longed for a place close to home to swim laps and take aerobics. This winter, she decided to forego swimming and, instead exercises in her spacious apartment at The Village at St. Barnabas. But the water is calling her and she counts the days until she can board the St. Barnabas bus and take a dip in the indoor pool for the very first time.
"I am really looking forward to being able to swim all year in the new pool," says Kay. "It will be so convenient to swim several times a week with my friends and keep in shape close to home."
